Management and Staff of Standard Chartered Bank, has distributed more than 1,000 pieces of both male and female condoms together with some educational leaflets to the residents of Chorkor and James Town communities in Accra.
The exercise, which falls under the Bank’s ‘Positive Living’ campaign, was to promote the education and reduction of stigma around HIV and AIDS patients.
The campaign helps to educate people about HIV and AIDS as well as reinforcing the message that everyone is entitled to a healthy and positive lifestyle, regardless of the stigma associated with HIV.
Mr Kweku Bedu-Addo, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, said the Bank has been involved in HIV awareness since the 90s.
He said on occasions such as the World AIDS Day, the Bank supports countries they operate in to create the needed awareness on the disease, while providing assistance to staff, who were affected.
He said the Bank would continue to think through for other initiatives to enable the institution to reach out to the communities.
Mr Bedu-Addo explained that awareness creation on the disease has gone down and called on stakeholders to improve on it.
“Awareness on the disease has gone to sleep, we need to rekindle the education among citizens,” he stressed.
