Assin South, South MP, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, has called on Ghanaians to stand in solidarity with the people of Israel, whom, he said, have become a constant target of terrorist attacks by Hamas, a terrorist group based in Palestine.

In a commemorative statement on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, 18 July, in solidarity with the State of Israel on the occasion of the country's 70th anniversary, the Ghanaian lawmaker stated that: "A total of 302 rockets and mortars had been fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip within the spate of three months – between 29 May and 17 July, this year".

Rev. Ntim Fordjour, who is also a member of the Foreign Affairs committee of Parliament, appealed to the international community, particularly the UN, AU and Ghana, to rise in solidarity with Israel and insist that the good people of Israel have an inalienable right to exist and to live in peace and harmony.

He also used the occasion to extol Israel's economic prowess, high technological advancement and agriculture exploits. Aside from the U.S. and China, Israel, he said, has the most companies listed on the tech-focused NASDAQ stock exchange. He, thus, challenged Ghana to learn from the Israeli model, adding that Israel also provides home to some of the most prestigious and sacred Jewish, Christian and Islamic heritage in the world.

The cleric-politician, who describes himself as a friend of Israel, expressed optimism that with the intervention of all relevant stakeholders, the Israel-Palestinian conflict will see a lasting solution.
