The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government must desist from removing persons appointed into office by the previous administration and focus on fulfilling the promises for which reason Ghanaians voted them into power, Kofi Adams, National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said.

According to him, the electorate expect that promises made to them will be fulfilled to improve their living conditions and not the removal of persons from office.

His comment comes on the heels of a petition filed to remove the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Charlotte Osei, from office.

Mrs Osei is expected to answer for six allegations out of the 27 accusations levelled against her by her two deputies Amadu Sulley (in charge of operations) and Georgina Amankwa (in charge of Corporate) Service).

This was after she appeared before the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court on Monday, December 11, after the President forwarded a petition by Forson Ampofoh and Godsway Dzado, both drivers at the EC office for her impeachment in relation to alleged corruption and mismanagement.

The two deputies are to also answer for their alleged roles in the disappearance of some GHS480,000 from the EC’s Endowment Fund, among other allegations.

Mrs Osei, who was present at the hearing with her lawyer explained that she has not been officially served with the petition. She has therefore written to the presidency to furnish her with a copy of the petition.

But speaking on this matter on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson, on Friday December 15, Mr Adams said: “The NPP cannot be delinked from the petition seeking to remove Charlotte Osei from office…

“I don’t know why they are chasing after appointees. From even cleaners to everybody, they are being chased because they were appointed by the previous government.

“The NPP government made several promises to Ghanaians for which they were voted for by Ghanaians. If they want to win the elections again in 2020, then, they should focus on delivering on their promises; it is only through this, that, you can get a renewal of mandate.

“But if they continue with their attitude, then, they should start preparing their handing over notes because it is not the removal of the Chairperson of the EC or her two deputies that will secure victory for them in the 2020 elections.”

He added: “Of course there are issues at the EC, I can’t sit here and say nothing is happening. Indeed the chairperson of the commission herself has given indication that certain wrongs have occurred at the EC, the deputies have also made similar comments but these are not enough grounds to impeach them. Otherwise, there are lots of things happening in various departments, even the presidency, and so,
