State Funeral For Fathia Nkrumah

PRESS RELEASE

STATE FUNERAL FOR H.E. MADAM FATHIA NKRUMAH, FORMER FIRST LADY OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA

The mortal remains of H.E. Madam Fathia Nkrumah, former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, will be flown into the country aboard Egypt Air on Saturday, 9th June, 2007, arriving at KIA at 10.30 pm. Ghana?s Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Akilaja Olufemi Akiwumi and a staff of the Mission together with the brother of the deceased, her son, Gamal, and daughter, Samia, will accompany the remains to Accra.

On arrival, the remains will be conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital morgue for further preservation till the day of the funeral and burial. The late former First Lady will be given a state burial on Tuesday, 12th June, 2007.

Her remains will be moved from the 37 Military Hospital morgue to the forecourt of the State House, where the funeral service will be held. The service will be officiated by His Grace Bishop Antonious Markos, Bishop of African Affairs of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The burial of the late former First Lady will take place at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum after the funeral service. She will be interred next to her late husband, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
