The executives and the entire membership of the Friends Of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) in the Central Region of Ghana consider as disappointing, dangerous, irritating and deeply insulting, the deliberate attempt by the mischievous elements in the party and government led by Johnson Asiedu Nketia to tarnish the image of our beloved Founder, Jerry John Rawlings and as a result call for his immediate resignation as the General Secretary of the party.
The comment made by Asiedu Nketia insinuating that ‘‘The Barking Dog that scared away people from our party has been tamed’’ was extremely unfortunate and we consider it as childish thought in the highest order. We do not expect such pronouncement from a General Secretary of a political party. He must wake up and think like a matured politician and stop displaying his shallow mindedness. We believe it is only the corrupt elements in the party and government who fear the so called “Barking Dog”. So if the father dog refuses to bark, the puppies will bark until the party and government are clean.
We all know politics is about numbers but it is not every number that is important so when the prodigal sons come back home, they are expected to respect their father. The exit of some people from a political party may be a blessing to that party as we saw some time ago in the NDC. The exit of Obed Asamoah and his cohorts was a blessing for the NDC and Atta Mills. Because Obed Asamoah never wanted to see Atta Mills being elected as the president of this land but when he left, unexpected happened. With the exit of Obed and his cohorts, the NDC remained united, focused on the core principles of the party and with a clear sense of purpose and direction, to make relevance, our presence in the Ghanaian political landscape.
If today, the likes of Asiedu Nketia, Obed Asamoah and President Mills think they can treat Rawlings like a slave in his own house, we the Central Regional FONKAR would make sure their plans would not materialise. Because of their evil agenda, they are now calling Rawlings a stranger in a party that he toiled with his blood.
Rawlings is now referred to as a ‘barking dog’ all because of the protection he gave to Atta Mills, Asiedu Nketia and their likes. Though everyone in the party played his/her part to see us elected into power. But we largely give the credit to Rawlings because of his persona, charisma and crowd pulling antiques. Mills has shown his ungratefulness to Jerry Rawlings, the man who brought him from political obscurity to the limelight, and stood by him in the face of internal political adversity through thick and thin.
We want to state categorically that we would never sit down unconcern to let any ungrateful and mischievous elements in the NDC to cast aspersions on our beloved founder, JERRY JOHN RAWLINGS upon whose vision and leadership our great party was formed.
We will not turn a blind eye or deaf ear on the deliberate attempt to make Rawlings irrelevant in his own party. He would forever be loved by the Central Regional Chapter of FONKAR and we are prepared to march his detractors boot for boot.
We therefore call on President Mills as a leader of our great party to call these men to order because the NDC had won power in the past and present because “we had stayed united since its formation as against the current trend” and Rawlings is still a force to reckon with, if NDC is bent on winning the 2012 elections.
Long Live H.E. Jerry John Rawlings Long Live FONKAR
