Stay calm, we’re in touch with the Chinese govt – Government of Ghana assures

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has urged all Ghanaian nationals living in China, especially Guangdong Province to remain calm and stay in touch with Ghana’s Mission in Beijing and the Consulate - General in Guangzhou in the event of any worrying development.

This announcement comes after a stakeholder meeting between the Republic of China and African Ambassadors following attacks and ill-treatment of black nationals in their country.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement said the two parties have reached a middle-ground as the Chinese government has taken immediate steps to stop the targeting of and ill-treatment meted out to Africans, particularly Ghanaians living in the Guangdong Province.

“At the meeting, it was announced that the government of the People’s Republic of China had taken note of happenings and was taking immediate steps to stop the targeting of any ill-treatment meted out to Africans, particularly our compatriots in the Guangdong Province,” the statement read.

Government added that it has taken notice of this development and is keenly monitoring the situation and advised Ghanaians in China to call +8618612081400, +8618612959040 to share concerns of further occurrences.
