Steel bender held for defilement

George Anane a 40 year old steel bender on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a six year old girl at Amasaman after sending her to buy him charcoal.

Anane charged with defilement pleaded not guilty at the court presided over by Mrs Ruby Naa Adjeley Quaison and was remanded into police custody pending further investigations into the matter.

He is expected to reappear on September 5.

Prosecuting Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court that the complainant is a 27 year old unemployed living at Opah, near Amasaman in Accra whiles the accused person also resides in the same area.

He said on July 29, this year the victim while passing in front of the accused person’s house to buy charcoal when he called her to buy some for him and gave her GH¢ 2.00.

When the victim brought the charcoal, Anane dragged her into his room and defiled her.

Anane, according to prosecution gave the victim GH¢2.00.00 and warned her not to tell anyone. The victim kept the ordeal to herself when she returned home.

However the victim on the same day visited her grandmother and around 21:30 hours the same day, while the victim was asleep the grandmother observed a foul smell on the victim and examined her.

Prosecution said the granny observed an injury in the victim’s vagina and it was at this juncture that she told her what the accused person had done to her.

The complainant reported to the Police at Amasaman and medical form was issued to her to send the victim to the hospital whiles Anane was arrested.
