Stoning adulterous wives: MP's comment "stupid, rubbish" - Ace

A private legal practitioner, Ace Ankomah, has described as “backward, stupid and rubbish” a proposal by the MP for Daboya/Mankarigu that adulterous women be stoned or hanged to death.

Nelson Abudu Daboya proposed in Parliament Thursday that the house must pass a law that sanctions stoning to death and hanging as punishment for women who commit adultery.

Despite severe backlash from the public and women’s rights activists, Abudu Daboya has been unrepentant.

In an interview with Starr News Friday, he claimed he would not even mind if his wife is stoned to death for adultery.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Saturday analysis programme, Ankomah called on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress to throw out the MP for his comments.

“This man predates dinosaurs and let me inform him that there is no Jurassic park to bring him back to life in the 21st century. He doesn’t deserve a seat in Parliament, if his party has any spine or backbone they will chuck him out of the party.

“This is the kind of thinking we don’t need in the 21st century, this is backward, it is antiquated and it is stupid to say that."

Ankomah added that the lawmaker rather deserves to be stoned for making such barbaric statements.

“This man is out of touch with reality, he is out touch with the law he is supposed to pass, he is out of touch with the 21st century and he is sitting in Parliament making laws for you and [me].

“I think that if he has any conscience he would resign himself. If he won’t, let’s look at his party, if his party won’t do anything, well as for us we are sitting here as Occupy Ghana…2016 is coming,” Mr Ankomah said.
