Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has sent a signal that the security agencies in the region will ensure an end to the chaos caused by some rampaging youth who are protesting the relocation of the district capital of Atwima Kwanwoma from Foase to Twedie.

There was tension at Foase on Wednesday, 7 February 2018, as angry youth locked up the District Chief Executive (DCE), Nana Okyere Tawiah, in his office amidst burning of car tyres.

Responding to a question by Jonas Ofori-Yeboah on Class91.3FM’s 505 news programme, the Minister said: “We will handle” the turmoil.

“All what we need to do is to ensure that the chaos there does not escalate. They have to stop it immediately,” he added.

He pointed out that the decision to relocate the capital was based on a court ruling, so, if the youth and the people of the town have any grievances, they should go to the court for redress.

Adehye FM’s Owoahene Addai Mununkum, who visited Foase, reported that hundreds of military and police personnel had been deployed to the town to forestall any disturbances.

It took the intervention of the police who had to fire tear gas and warning shots to disperse the irate youth and ensure calm.
