Ms. Esther Ofori, Chief Executive of Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited, has criticised illegal electrical connections by some exhibitors at the on going 8th Ghana International Trade Fair and asked them to desist from this illegal act with immediate effect.
She said all connections should have authorization from the managers of the fair, who will then assign qualified electricians to do the job.
Ms. Esther Ofori was reacting to the fire outbreak at the Trade Fair Centre on Sunday morning, which destroyed the stand of Customer Services Company Limited.
She said the actual cause is not yet known, but it is believed to have been caused by overloading of the electrical lines.
She said when the Trade Fair Company asked the owner of Customer Services to use a particular type of power supply he refused, preferring the single power point face.
According to the Fire Service report, the exhibitor was using some gadgets, which have stronger power than the single face installed.
The Trade Fair Company has however since reconstructed the burnt stand.
Ms Ofori said although there is a Fire Service post at the Centre, every exhibitor should have a fire extinguisher on his/her stand.
She said the prime responsibility of the company is to safeguard the exhibitors and visitors from any mishap and called on the individuals to cooperate with them to their mutual benefit.
Ms. Ofori appealed to all exhibitors to undertake an insurance policy on their goods for the ten days at least. She said all the foreign exhibitors had their goods insured before the fair which is an example worth emulating.
