The former Minister of Transport, Dzifa Attivor has been criticized publicly following a ‘tribalistic’ 'problematic' and ‘divisive’ statement calling on Voltarians to vote for the NDC to prevent her from being put into jail by the NPP.

Madam Dzifa Attivor, speaking at a rally Tuesday, called on members of the NDC and Voltarians to prevent the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), from coming into power because they have a grand agenda of jailing all Voltarians.

Former Jerry John Rawlings who himself is an Ewe has chided the former minister describing her statement as “distasteful”.

A portion of a statement issued by the former President read:

"I find it distasteful that aside making ethnocentric references accusing the NPP Presidential candidate of being tribalistic, she also insinuated that because I was the Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the electorate in the Volta Region should vote for the party on that basis.

"I do not subscribe to the politics of ethnic bias and never have. While I may not be a fan of the NPP, I know their presidential candidate is not tribalistic or ethnocentric. Whatever Nana Addo’s shortcomings, tribalism is not one of them. Some known and respected Voltarians like Nutifafa Kuenyehia should be able to testify to his political nature.

"As we draw closer to the next Presidential and Parliamentary elections we all as Ghanaians expect ALL PARTIES involved in the process to base their arguments and campaign rhetoric on the truth and desist from emotional and non-factual statements, especially where my name has to be mentioned."

However, speaking in an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said Dzifa Attivor should not be attacked over what seems to be true.

In his view, the one who should be ‘attacked’ or questioned is the opposition NPP.

According to him, the elephant family should rather come out to either deny or accept the claim.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said, those who feel worried or disturbed, can continue to be, because what she [Attivor] said demonstrates what the party [NPP] has done before.

"Are people worried because Madam Dzifa Attivor was speaking the truth or not? If you hate to speak the truth, then you will continue to be worried … The woman said, vote for us because when the NPP come to power, they will jail all Voltarians citing examples; so let the NPP come out to defend themselves."
