Stop demonizing Ibrahim Mahama – Aquinas Quansah to critics

Former Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Taiwiah Quansah, has asked critics of Ibrahim Mahama to cease demonizing the man who is the Chief Executive of Engineers and Planners (E&P).

He said it was surprising that people who are to know better, have been using the media to run down Mr Mahama and his business, which he said, was established before his brother, John Mahama, became vice president and subsequently president of Ghana.

“People should stop demonizing Ibrahim Mahama all in the name of politics. I have personally worked with him (Ibrahim Mahama) when he started E&P, I was the first director and I can tell you how that company started, even long before his brother became Vice President and subsequently, President,” he said.

Speaking to Onua FM Tuesday morning on the recent seizure of some equipment belonging to E&P, Mr Quansah added: “I weep when I hear people demonizing this young businessman ignorantly” The equipment was seized at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, allegedly on the orders of the regional minister.

He said although people have advised against politicization of the issue, he claimed there are a lot of political heavyweights behind the seizure of the equipment.

Mr Quansah said the bauxite concession on which the E&P equipment was being used belongs to Exton Cubic Group Limited, which he said is information that is public knowledge.

“Just because equipment of E&P was spotted on that same concession, the assumption is that it was Ibrahim Mahama who is coming to mine bauxite, so somebody has to show they have power,” he said.

He said he finds it repugnant when indigenous businesses are run down in the name of and wondered why Ghanaians cannot be support of their own.

“If you see this young man driving luxury car and you don’t know how he started, you don’t go on to criticize him ignorantly just because his brother was once a president. You don’t know how he started but I know. Let us support our own, whatever project a foreigner can do, they should know Ibrahim Mahama can do it even better” Quansah argued.
