Stop exploiting us- Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu

Muslim politicians have been advised against the use of the poverty situation in the Muslim communities for political benefits. Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu gave the advice in a Friday sermon at the Burma Camp Mosque. He said Muslim politicians should rather see their influential positions as an opportunity to offer genuine solutions to the problems and challenges faced by Muslim communities in the country. He said politicians should desist from using youth from the Muslim communities to do their dirty work.

He said Muslim communities in the country are characterized by the worst forms of human conditions like hunger, poverty, illiteracy and social vices. He said every Muslim blessed with wealth has a huge responsibility to assist in the development of the Muslim communities. He added that Muslims must rise up to the occasion and solve their problems.
Sheikh Armiyao questioned situations where political leaders donated bags of rice and food items to Muslim leaders, “why don’t they donate to us cement which we could use to build school blocks?” . Sheikh Armiyao who is also the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of Islamic Education Unit advised parents to ensure their children are well educated. He said Muslims should control spending lavishly on social ceremonies like mourning and outdooring. He said such resources could be channeled into a more graceful venture like the provision of school buildings and teaching materials.
He deplored the situation where people with questionable source of wealth were given special recognitions and treatments at social events. He said such gestures set bad examples for younger generations. Sheikh said in Islam drinking alcohol is forbidden so Muslims especially the youth should desist from alcohol. The sermon centered on the theme Islam is the roadmap to eternal salvation.
