Stop harassing Mahama appointees - NDC to government

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued out a strong warning to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist ‘deliberately’ instigating attacks on appointees under the Mahama-led government.

The caution follows the NPP’s commencement of legal processes to prosecute former COCOBOD boss Stephen Opuni Mensah and businessman Alhaji Seidu Agongo over a supposed fraudulent fertilizer supply contract worth GHc43,120,000.

The two were dragged to court by the Attorney General and charged with 27 counts of causing financial loss to the state.

Members of the NDC however believe it is a fixed agenda by the Akufo-Addo-led government to sanction officials of the NDC as a way of shifting attention from the several corrupt acts perpetrated by functionaries of the sitting government.

They cited a number of instances including the award of 11 contracts to a sister-in-law of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority, Kofi Osei Ameyaw in a day as well as the sale of some 1.8million litres of crude oil at a discount that has allegedly led to a GHS23million revenue loss to the state.

Expressing disappointment, the NDC in a statement said they “never thought that such crudeness and blatant disregard for the rights of our members would be the weapons of choice in this political vendetta.”

For them, the countless cases of harassment, intimidation, lawlessness and abuse of processes “suffered by members under the guise of investigations into alleged wrongdoing by various state bodies” is enough proof that the NPP is deliberately orchestrating ‘dubious’ ways to wrongfully punish their members.
