Stop mortgaging your integrity for cars – Dr. Amoako Baah to Chiefs

Political analyst, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah is advising chiefs to stop their disgraceful conduct of openly endorsing flagbearers of various political parties in return for some goodies.

He observed that their conduct perverts a 1992 constitutional provision that bars chiefs from engaging in active partisan politics in the country.

”Day in day out we hear and see them doing so just because of money and cars.” He alleged.

Speaking to Abusua news on the recent spate of endorsements of politicians by some prominent chiefs, the Political Science lecturer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said he feels disheartened and embarrassed each time he hears of such a development.

According to him, it casts a slur on the reputation of the chieftaincy institution and therefore appeal to chiefs to begin respecting the titles they hold in the interest of the democracy of the country.

”It is worrisome and personally, I feel bad sometimes when I hear chiefs declaring their support for some political leaders. It is unlawful and unprofessional. Most of these chiefs do not care about their people hence their unlawful acts. For all we know, chiefs are supposed to work for their people but not to associate themselves with politics. If you do that and your people insult you will you take actions against them knowing very well that you are not supposed to be doing so.

As a chief you can advise your people to vote for people they believe can do the job perfectly but not to publicly declare support for politicians. It is sometimes shocking to hear that some chiefs are admonishing their people to vote for a particular party but my question is on the voting day will they vote together with the chief’’ he asked.
