Stop talking because we don’t need this: Gary Nimako tells Owusu-Bempah over public outburst

Director of Legal Affairs of NPP, Gary Nimako Director of Legal Affairs of NPP, Gary Nimako

The Director of Legal Affairs of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako, has called on Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah to cease his recent public outbursts regarding his arrest by the Ghana Police Service.

According to Nimako, the accusations made by Owusu-Bempah against the NPP fraternity, claiming they were against him, are false.

He explained that as Owusu-Bempah’s lawyer during his arrest, in his capacity as the NPP’s legal representative, it would be illogical for him to have defended Owusu-Bempah in court if both the party and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were against him.

Responding to a social media post on October 8, 2024, Gary Nimako stated: "Kofi Peprah, I have deliberately been silent about Rev. Owusu-Bempah and the matters arising. I was not expecting him to mention my name. It is true that I was the lead counsel on his case.

“There is a lot I cannot say, but the truth is that I was allowed by the judge to make my submissions. Yes, the Circuit Court Judge denied bail, but I proceeded to the High Court to secure bail for him and the others.

“I urge Rev. Owusu-Bempah to stop talking because we don’t need this, please. If President Akufo-Addo’s government and the party were against him, the Director of Legal Affairs would never have assisted. Thank you."

Owusu-Bempah and three others were arrested in September 2021 for the "creation and circulation of multiple videos containing threats, the brandishing of a weapon, and the assault of some police personnel."
