The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has described as “shameful” and “disgraceful” attempts by the two major political parties in the country – NPP and NDC – to score cheap political points over the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The opposition NDC have been hitting hard at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for claiming the NPP and President Akufo-Addo were better managers of crisis than the NDC and ex-President Mahama.

Dr Bawumia had said this in response to Mr Mahama’s constant criticism of how the government was handling the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

But the GPCC has waded into the discourse calling on all the political parties to cease fire immediately as such partisan activities will not inure to the benefit of Ghanaians.

The group added that COVID-19 is not a respecter of any political party or person hence the need for a collectively fight against the virus.

“Everybody has been affected by COVID-19, it’s a life and death matter. We are told we are in a war; you’re dealing with an enemy we can’t see but that enemy is seriously destroying. So why would we make political gains? Why would we turn it into partisan politics? I think it is an embarrassment, I think it’s a shame for Ghana. I think it’s a sad moment if we have these two major political parties turn this thing whole thing into a partisan acrimony,” Bishop S.N Mensah, an Executive member of the Council and President of the Full Gospel Church International told Class News’ Blessed Sogah.

“So, I think the government should stay focused and then find out how to fight this unseen enemy and all of us should rally behind one government, one leader called the president, one government to try to solve this problem,” he added.
