Stop using Zongo boys for mischief, Politicians told

Effiakuma (W/R), Jan 10, GNA -Imam Abdul Kadir, Imam of the Moshie community in Takoradi said the use of the youth in the zongos to cause mischief by politicians must stop. He said the practice had created a very bad name for the zongos and embarrassed the inhabitants.

Imam Kadir said these on Monday, when Mr Kofi Coomson, Chief Promoter of the Coomson's Private Initiative presented a live sheep, a bag of rice, some quantities of tea and sugar. Imam Kadir said the inhabitants of the zongos needed infrastructure, education and skills development to transform the large number of unemployed youths into viable citizens. He said many zongos had been deprived for a long time and urged the government to assist them. Mr Coomson said the donation was to assist the mosque in its celebration of the Eid Al Adha festival. He said he had organised a party for Christians during the Christmas festivities and decided to assist the Muslims. Mr Coomson said the Coomson initiative had already started offering scholarships, skills training and free vacation classes for the youths within the zongos and urged the youth to take advantage. He said the decision to focus on the zongos was because they lacked many social and educational opportunities, which could have moved the development of the zongos forward. Mr Coomson appealed to the youth to co-exist peacefully with people of other religions and should not undermine each other. Similar donations were made to the Tanokrom and Kwesiminstim mosques.
