Celebrated sports journalist, Dan Kwaku Yeboah has urged Ghanaians to demand from the two leading presidential candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Mahama, to present their policy on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking on Peace FM, monitored by GhanaWeb, the celebrated journalist said Ghanaians should not keep silent watching the two leading candidates not make their position on the menace known when they want to occupy the highest position of the land.
"The galamsey menace is really disturbing, and because of politics, nobody is confident enough to state his position on the issue. Of all the aspirants seeking to be president, none of them has clearly stated what he will do to fight Galamsey. Everyone is winding about the issue, which should be tackled urgently.
"They are doing so because when Nana Akufo Addo stated his position on galamsey menace, he nearly lost the last election. Everywhere they mine gold, the NPP lost the election, so these candidates are afraid to publicly state their position on the disturbing matter."
Dan Kwaku Yeboah added that Dr. Bawumia and Mahama should be confident enough to state their position if indeed they are ready to lead Ghanaians as president.
"They should be bold to speak out. Dr. Bawumia should tell us this is my policy on galamsey. Former president Mahama should do the same and stop being afraid to make their stance known on the issue. We need to demand it from them, especially the two leading aspirants. They should give us their policy on galamsey now."
