COPENHAGEN, Denmark - A dead stowaway was discovered Tuesday in the hold of a cargo ship transporting nuts from Ghana to Denmark, police said.
The man who, believed to be in his 20s, died from hypothermia, said Ole Madsen of the police in Aarhus, where the Polish ship arrived late Monday.
He said the man had been dead for several days when two crew members found him early Tuesday morning.
Police believe that the man, who was wearing thin clothes, was from Ghana. They found biscuits and water at his side.
The ship left the port city of Tema in the West African country Feb. 17 and sailed directly to Aarhus, 200 kilometers (124 miles) northwest of Copenhagen, the Danish capital.
Temperatures in Denmark during February and March routinely hover around the freezing point.
The name of the Polish ship was not immediately available.
