Captain Anthony Cudjoe (Rtd), Sekondi Municipal Chief Executive, says 46,000 properties and 12,000 intersections have been identified for the street naming and property numbering exercise.
He said this follows the directive by President John Dramani Mahama for the naming of all streets and number all properties in the Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s).
The objective of the exercise is to help MMDAs improve on revenue generation through property rates and business activities.
Captain Cudjoe who was speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the weekend revealed that, the assembly has budgeted $1.9 million for the project.
He said the assembly has secured $290, 000 from the global community, which has helped in the collection of data, photo mapping digitisation and valuation of properties.
He said lack of street names in the city has affected the activities of the assembly both economic and social.
Captain Cudjoe said the assembly staff in charge of the exercise have step up their efforts to meet the deadline as directed by the President.
Mrs Christiana Kobina, Tarkwa/Nsuaem Municipal Chief Executive also told GNA that the assembly intends to start a second phase of the exercise which involves the erection of signage poles.
She thanked the United State Agency for International Development the Local Governance and Decentralisation Programme for supporting the assembly with funds to achieve the set target.
