Accra, Aug. 28, -- Paul Asossa, a second year student of the National Technical Engineering College in Accra, will embark on an eight-day "AIDS Awareness Run" from Accra to Kumasi from Monday, September one. A statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Accra today said the run, timed to coincide with the opening of this year's National Sports Festival, would end on September eight. It is in support of a campaign against AIDS launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sector AIDS Awareness Committee. The Committee, chaired by Professor Patrick A.K. Addy, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, aims at raising the national campaign against AIDS to a higher sphere through sporting activities. Assosa will end the first lap of his run at Nsawam where he will interact with the youth and people of the area and give lectures and counselling on AIDS prevention. Other stops en route to Kumasi are Suhum, Kibi, Anyinam, Nkawkaw, Konongo and Ejusu. The Committee organised a Football Clinic and AIDS Awareness Talk in Accra last June at which renowned international soccer star, George Oppong Weah, was among the resource persons.
