Student arrested with pistol and live ammunition

Sunyani, Oct 27, GNA- The Police at Duayaw Nkwanta in Brong Ahafo are investigating a case in which one Collins Obuor, a student of Duayaw Nkwanta Secondary School is alleged to have in his possession a locally manufactured pistol and two live ammunitions on campus.

Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that some tutors of the school upon a tip off on October 20, this year, arrested Obuor in his dormitory with the pistol, two rounds of live ammunition and four kitchen knives hidden in his trunk box.

He said the student was immediately handed over to the Duayaw Nkwanta Police for further investigations.

A search later conducted by the police in the dormitory led to the arrest of Obuor's friend, Sylvester Owusu Agyapong who also had in his possession a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp inside his trunk box.

When interrogated by police as to how he got the items, Obuor refused to mention his source and the two have been placed in police custody for further investigations.

In another development, police officers on duty at a barrier at Dormaa Ahenkro have arrested three passengers for each concealing a locally manufactured pistol inside their bags.

Joseph Kukyemah, 25 and Yaw Owusu, 27, were on the same bus while Yaw Mensah, 30, was on another and they were travelling from Berekum to their various destinations when they were arrested during a search. Inspector Tawiah said Owusu and Kukyemah were in a Mercedes Benz on its way to Yametwa in the Western Region while Mensah was on a Nissan bus to Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa district.

He said the three have been arraigned before court and were remanded into prison custody pending further investigations. 27 Oct 03
