Student remanded over visa fraud

Asamankese(E/R), April 26, GNA- Alexander Korankye, a 27-year-old student of the Royal Technical College at Nungua, Accra, has been remanded in police custody by the Asamankese Circuit Court for allegedly collecting 40 million cedis from a colleague and issuing him with a fake UK visa.

The plea of Korankye was not taken and would re-appear before the court on May 4.

According to the prosecution, Korankye issued Charles Oppong with the fake travelling document, which was rejected at the Kotoka International Airport.

Police Chief Inspector Alhassan Amadu, said Korankye convinced the complainant that he had procured visas for a number of people to travel abroad.

The prosecution said Oppong paid the amount through a friend and on February 23, Oppong was issued with a passport and the visa. The prosecution said when Korankye was arrested, he mentioned a friend at the Ghana Immigration Service in Accra as the source of the visa.
