Student-teachers urged to develop entrepreneurial skill

Winneba (C/R), May 22, GNA - A lecturer at the Home Economics Department of the University of Education, Winneba, Miss Katumi Comfort Maddah, has urged student-teachers to develop business and entrepreneurial skills to enable them to impact such knowledge to others.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview during a practical exam for final year students of the Department on Friday at Winneba, Miss Maddah noted that integration of entrepreneurship into the school curriculum was of much importance. She said it was to offer young people the opportunity to set up their own small businesses in their communities after school. Miss Maddah said the course aims at introducing students to the concept of entrepreneurship and train them to acquire the needed skills as well as prepare and implement business plans to realize their dreams.

A Senior Research Assistant at the Department, Mrs Evelyn Williams said the course was introduced six years ago following an observation that a lot of Ghanaians did not go into entrepreneurial business. Mr Victor Abgavitor, General Course representative, told the GNA that his outfit between February and May this year realized GH¢1,730 out of a mini business it started at the Department's restaurant.

He encouraged students to take advantage of the course in order to develop their talents and skills for the benefits of others.
