Students' body expresses concern over admissions

The National Executive of the National Union of Students in Ghana says it views with serious concern what it describes as the attempt by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah to discredit student leaders and incite the public against them. A statement signed by the President of NUG, Adam Mohamed said Professor Addae Mensah in a statement at the Speech and prize giving day at Aquinas Secondary School last week, threatened to cut down admissions by 25 per cent next academic year if students refuse to pay for accommodation. The statement observed that the threat to cut down admissions should not be blamed on students' refusal to pay rent. It said Professor Mensah should have been bold enough to attribute it to the unjustified decline in government expenditure on higher education.
