Students embark on educational campaign

Akuma (B/A) July 3, GNA - The Nkoranza Chapter of Brong-Ahafo Students Union (BASU) has launched a two-week educational campaign to encourage parents to send their children to school.

Apart from sensitising the people on the importance of education and the responsibilities of parents towards their children, the students would also talk on teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.

Mr Kwabena Agyeman-Badu, District Director of Education, who launched the programme at Akuma, commended the students for working towards the development of education in the district.

He said "Your initiative is in the right direction since as role models and citizens of the area the people will understand you better". Mr Agyeman-Badu advised parents to pay attention to their children's education, especially that of the girl-child, and to assist them to acquire skills and knowledge required for national development.

He also advised parents against spending lavishly on marriages, funerals and other social activities and invest in the development of their children.

Mr Agyeman-Badu urged students to be law-abiding, respectful and study hard so that they could become useful citizens. 3 July 04
