The Right Reverend Dr. Edem Tettey, Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church, has appealed to church leaders especially pastors not to rebel against the authority that God used in ordaining them.
“We humble ourselves to get ordained and after that we rebel in our minds and hearts against the authority that God used to ordain us. We enter ministry because we can preach or because we have personal sets of agenda,” he said.
Rev. Dr. Tettey was addressing an Impartation Session of the Pastors and Spouses’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2015 of the Global Evangelical Church held at Ho, in the Volta Region.
It was on the theme: “Christ our perfect Example in Ministry” and was attended by over 200 pastors and their spouses of the church.
He said, as pastors, we need to emulate Christ Jesus, our perfect example in Ministry, adding that, “Jesus made it clear that He came not to do His own will but that of the Father who sent Him.”
The Moderator said, a summary of the life of Jesus Christ according to Philippians 2:5-9 was humility and obedience to God from the time He left Heaven to the time He finished His assignment.
He said, pastors were in Ministry either to please themselves or the Father in heaven, noting that “if a man would make the most impact in ministry, he must have the mind of Christ.”
He said authority was a basic principle in God's Kingdom. Jesus was obedient to God, and thus became the source of salvation to those who obey him (Hebrews 5:8-9). It was because Jesus had been given all authority that he could authorize and commission his disciples to raise other disciples who would also do same to others.
The Moderator said, the Holy Spirit in Romans 13, stressed the need for submission to Authority. “We seem to have set that aside in Ministry”.
Rev. Dr. Tettey led the Pastors through some Impartation prayers where they fervently asked for the mind of Christ to dwell in them. They also prayed for a change of heart that always sought to obey the Lord.
In a related development, the Pastors and Spouses Association of the Global Evangelical Church at its 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Ho, has elected new Executives to steer its affairs for the next three years.
