The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Suhum constituency branch has suspended its communications officer Samuel Baah and Deputy Nasara Coordinator, Alhaji Bala Abubakar, for divisive conduct and anti-party behaviour.

The decision follows an emergency meeting held by the constituency executive committee on the issue on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

According to the party, after the election of the parliamentary candidate, the communication officer appeared not happy with the decision of the party and so erected a public address (PA) system to make derogatory comments against the party's candidate.

The party considered this action an apparent move to advocate the electorates in Suhum to disrespect and/or defy the party's January 27, 2024, decision that elected Prank Asiedu Bekoe and to urge the incumbent MP to contest as an independent candidate for the 2024 general elections.

A statement signed by Stephen Odame, disclosed that the duo, in the company of some executives of the Party on July 28, 2024, organized another procession through some principal streets of Suhum township to present a petition to the incumbent member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Kwadjo Asante, to prevail upon him to contest as an independent candidate, contrary to Article 3(5)(a)(4) of the NPP Constitution.

"The CEC therefore finds such conducts divisive, anti-party, and above all misconducts of the highest order. It must be noted that this decision has been a difficult one for the Party to take at this crucial time, particularly at this time when we needed everyone onboard for a resounding victory in the upcoming 2024 elections.

"However, the CEC takes the view that much as the Party needs everyone onboard to canvass votes, necessity cannot be used to sacrifice the discipline that must exist to guard our collective values in the Party—hence our decision," the statement said.

"Finally, we are by this release sounding a note of caution to all the rank and file of the Party in Suhum to let this decision serve as a deterrent to any member/officer who may want to indulge in such anti-party conduct since the CEC will not relent on its quest to instill discipline in the Party by taking similar decisions when called upon."
