The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tamale North Constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini, has donated some items to the Christian community in the area to facilitate this year’s Christmas celebration.
The items included 55 bags of 25kg rice, 6 boxes of cooking oil, 20 boxes of bottled water and 62 crates of soft drinks, among others, at a cost of GHS 11, 702.00.
The donation was made at a short ceremony held at the National Democratic Congress’ office in the constituency on Monday, 24 December 2018.
The constituency executives, led by the Chairman, gave out the items to representatives of the various Christian denominations, including the Baptist and Pentecostal churches.
In an interview with Class91.3FM’s Northern regional correspondent, Mohammed Gadafi, the Tamale North Constituency Treasurer of the NDC, Alhaji Salman Faris explained that the donation is a fulfillment of the MP’s pledge to help his constituents from both Christian and Muslim communities during festivities such as Christmas.
He described the legislator as a benevolent person who is determined to put smiles on the faces of his people.
“Everybody will bear witness that sharing is caring and he has been doing this in the constituency, even from the time that he was a parliamentary candidate. You will also bear with me that when he was going for the polls in 2016, he did mention that it is not the number he will get that matters but the number of smiles that he will be putting on the faces of his constituents,” he noted.
He entreated the public to celebrate cautiously and avoid drinking whilst driving.
One of the elders of the Second Baptist Pentecost Church in the Gumani branch, Pastor Issah, received the items on behalf of the various churches and thanked Mr Suhuyini for the kind gesture.
He prayed for the MP and said the offer is a novelty that strengthens the union between Muslims and Christians in the constituency.
