Sunyani Krontihene goes wild

The Krontihene of Sunyani Traditional Council, Oboaman Bofotia Boa Amponsem II, has given management of the Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) and the Old Students Association (SOSA) up to Friday, May 22, 2015 to prove allegations they had leveled against him.

They had alleged that he was selling parts of the school land.

The chief, who spoke with rage, also announced that if the school authorities and the association were able to prove their allegations against him, he would willingly abdicate his stool.

It will be recalled that the school authorities and the old students association led the students to demonstrate on May 13 to register their displeasure about the encroachment of the school land.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards carried by the students read: “Don’t Sell Our Lands, Sunyani Krontihene.”

However, speaking at a well-attended press conference on Monday in Sunyani, the various families who constitute the Krontire Division, denied the allegations against the chief.

The people, clad in black with red arm bands, vowed to go every length to exonerate their chief, saying the allegations were an attempt to disgrace him.

“It is a calculated plot to drag the Krontihene’s name into the mud. We are challenging them [SOSA and the school authorities] to provide tangible and credible evidence, failure they should quickly come public to apologize and retract, else we shall take them on,” Nana Kyeremeh Ampaabeng, the Nifahene of the Krontire Division, stated.

Addressing the media, the Sunyani Krontihene denied ever selling a single parcel of the said lands to anybody saying, “I have personally never sold or even made my mind to sell any portion of the school’s land to any person, body or institution.”

He explained, “The brutal truth is that the entire land on which Sunyani Senior High School is situated is for four families namely, Nana Sunyanihene’s family, Krontihene’s family, Tuntumhene’s family and Dwantoahene’s family.”

“I find this serious allegation against me by the SOSA demonstrators that I was indiscriminately selling school lands as a sharp and cynical attack on my personality and the traditional/customary position that I hold in Sunyani as the Krontihene.

“I’m therefore throwing a challenge to the teachers, headmistress and the old students association to come out and prove to the entire world that I have sold the said land to any private developer.
