Sunyani, Jan 10, GNA - A large number of Moslems from the various communities in the Sunyani Municipality on Tuesday converged at the Sunyani Coronation Park and offered prayers to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha. Alhaji Umar Abdul Kadri, Brong-Ahafo Regional Chief Imam, led the more than 2,000 Moslems in prayers for continued peace in the municipality.
He asked Moslems to support the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme and advised the Muslim youth to refrain from pre-marital sex to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS. "We must try to live in a healthy environment t o avoid malaria, which is the number one killer disease in the country", he said. Nana Kwadwo Seinti, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, appealed to Muslims to eschew violent behaviour, which he said was tarnishing the image of Islam.
He emphasized the need for them to ensure peaceful co-existence to promote development in the various communities. Nana Seinti urged Muslim parents to take advantage of the capitation grant and enrol their children in schools to enable them to become responsible citizens.
On behalf of the Regional Coordination Council, the Regional Minister presented two rams, six bags of rice and 10 crates of soft drinks to the Moslems.
Sunyani Municipal Assembly also presented four bags of rice and three crates of soft drinks.
