Sunyani Presiding Member re-elected

Sunyani, Dec 30, GNA - Mr Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, a Sunyani-based legal practitioner and a government appointee, has been re-elected as the Presiding Member of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly for a third consecutive term.

He stood unopposed and had 56 votes out of the 64.

The members prevailed on Mr Ameyaw-Kyeremeh, who had refused to seek re-election, to contest because two contestants could not get the required percentage after two rounds of voting.

Mr Isaac Kwadwo Amankwaa, a government appointee in the first election had 41 out of the 67 votes while Mr Kwaku Obeng, an Assembly Member of Abosa Odumase electoral area in the Municipality, had 26 votes.

In the second voting, Mr. Amankwaa had 42 votes whilst Mr. Obeng collected 25 votes.

Mr Anthony Oppong, the Sunyani Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission who supervised the election, said since the two contestants could not get the required percentage there was the need for fresh nominees.

The Assembly Members then took a unanimous decision and asked Mr Ameyaw-Kyeremeh to contest.

In his acceptance speech the re-elected Presiding Member thanked the members, told them to forget about their differences and support him to champion the cause of the assembly.
