Odumase (B/A), April 3, GNA - The newly created Sunyani West District Assembly on Thursday unanimously approved the President's nominee, Mr. Kwabena Ankomah Kyeremeh as the District Chief Executive. Mr. Kyeremeh, 61, a former headmaster of Odumaseman Senior High School polled 35 votes representing 89.7 percent of the 39 valid votes cast.
The election was conducted and supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission at Odumase, the district capital. The Assembly also voted overwhelmingly to approve Mr. Gabriel Kwaku Boakye Broni as Presiding Member.
Mr. Broni, 59, an educationist and circuit supervisor for Sunyani schools secured 36 votes out of the 39 valid votes cast. Five of the Assembly members were absent. They include the queen mother of Odumase Number Two and four others who came from Nsoatre, where the chiefs and people are protesting against the selection of Odumase as the district capital.
Addressing the Assembly Members prior to the elections, Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Regional Minister, entreated the electorate to accept the President's nominee and the Presiding Member to facilitate the smooth and rapid operations of the Assembly.
He explained that as a newly created Assembly there was the need for members to bury their differences so they could initiate and execute programmes to enhance the development of the district. Mr. Baffour-Awuah urged the District Chief Executive and the Presiding Member to work assiduously towards the growth of the area. In their acceptance speech, Mr Kyeremeh and Mr Broni thanked the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work hard to ensure the district's development.
Mr. Kyeremeh said he would operate an open door policy to enable the members to channel their grievances for redress. He appealed to the Assembly members to demonstrate unity of purpose and help tackle the diverse problems confronting the growth of the area. 3 April 08
