Former President John Dramani Mahama has asked party supporters to play active roles in the rebuilding of the party and ensure that they offer maximum support for any person who emerges as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Let us do all the needed party building work and then when we go for the presidential congress, we all support the individual that emerges as flagbearer then that person takes us to [ the elections in] 2020,” Mr Mahama noted during an address to party supporters as part of NDC’s Unity Walk held in Tarkwa on Saturday, November 25.

The event is the fourth in a series of walks after similar events were held in Accra, Tamale and Cape Coast.

Ahead of the primaries to elect a flagbearer for the next elections, Mr Mahama has already revealed that he will support anyone the party deems fit to represent the umbrella party in 2020.

After the NDC lost the 2016 elections, a few stalwarts in the party or their assigns have made comments and gestures suggesting they will pitch in the 2020 race.

They include former Trade Minister Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Sylvester Mensah, former Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, Mr Goosie Tanoh, Majority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, former Vice Chancellor of UPSA Prof Joshua Alabi, and Second Deputy Speaker Alban Bagbin.

Former President John Mahama is also speculated to be garnering steam for a comeback although he has not expressly said whether or not he will run again.
