Survey On Corruption Places Ghana Sixth

Accra (Greater Accra), 12 Jan.,

An International Investment Research Body, Messrs control risk group, has ranked Ghana sixth among a list of 40 emerging markets in a survey it conducted on corruption. A statement signed by Mr.. John Mahama, Deputy Minister of Communications, said in Accra today that the survey which was made available to government upon its request, covered managers responsible for international operations from 50 European and 50 US-Based companies. In a letter, Mr.. Christopher Grose, Director of information services of Messrs control risks group, pointed out that Ghana has a very favourable environment for foreign investment, listing three factor that account for Ghana's ranking. Firstly, that perceptions of levels of corruption are often historic and take time and effort to correct. Secondly, perceptions are subjective and can be based on ignorance rather than reliable date. Thirdly, measures to increase transparency and crack down on corruption often heighten the perception of the levels of corruption. The statement quoted Mr.. Grose as saying the group "welcomes the opportunity to discuss further the survey and remedial measures that could be taken to correct this surprising perception of Ghana".
