Suspect in shooting incidence on the run

The Kumasi Asokwa police are looking for one Kwabena Siaw believed to be responsible for shooting Nana Owusu Akyeaw, Nkosuohene of Krom-Adwafo, and four others on New Year's day over a chieftaincy dispute.

Three accomplices of Siaw have been placed in police custody while some unknown people has burnt Siaw's house.

The chief is on admission at the Saint Micheal's Hospital at Pramso while three of the injured, Yaw Asibey, Kwame Antwi and Kofi Nti, were treated and discharged.

Narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on his hospital bed Nana Owusu Akyeaw said at about 1300 hrs on New Year's Day he went round with his nephew greeting some members of his family.

He said on their way they met a group of young men from the royal family who were opposed to the enstoolment of Nana Osei Bannor as the Odikro of the town.

Nana Owusu Akyeaw said the young men rained insults on him but he did not respond and walked away.

''After walking a few metres I heard a gun shot from behind and all that I can remember is I am in hospital.''

The Asokwa police confirmed the story and said the gunman was identified as Kwabena Siaw.
