Suspected drug traffickers arrested

Accra, Oct. 29, GNA- Three persons, suspected to be drug traffickers were arrested by security officials at the Kotota International Airport.

Bernard Kra Emile, a 36-year-old Nigerian was arrested on October 1, 2004 with 750 grams of substance suspected to be cocaine. Emile, a salesman by profession carried the drugs from Sao Paolo aboard a South African flight and delivered 62 pellets of the stuff in Johannesburg.

According to officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NCB), security men at the Kotoka International Airport detected that although the suspect is a Nigerian, Emile was travelling with an Ivorian passport, which prompted them to keep surveillance on him. This led to the discovery of the substance in his belt.

Samuel Akoh Asinor, a 40-year-old businessman based in the US was also arrested on October 19, 2004, after expelling 52 pellets of substance suspected to be cocaine.

Asinor was departing for the United States (US). Victor Gandoh, a 36-year-old Ghanaian who was travelling with a Liberian passport was arrested on October 21, 2004, with 8.7 kilograms of substance suspected to be cocaine.

Narcotics Control Board officials told journalists that Gandoh who is an auto-mechanic and was travelling to the United Kingdom (UK), tagged his baggage, which contained the substance in the name of William Martin Burgess, 15, his stepson and a British national. Both have been placed in police custody.
