Suspected robber gunned down in shoot out with Police

A suspected robber has lost his life while three of his accomplices were arrested in a shootout with the Tema Police.

Two other suspects managed to escape, a press release from the Tema Regional Police Command, said.

"On June 17, 2016, at about 5:00pm, personnel from the Tema Regional Police gunned down one Felix Teye Akwetey and arrested three of his accomplices; Affum Agbekley, 22 years old, Mohammed Nazir, 23 years and Divine Tetteh, 24 years old, while two other suspects whose names are yet to be established, managed to escape."

According to release, "Information had reached the Police that some people had loaded some items into an unregistered Hyundai H100 mini bus and were heading towards Lekpongunor.

It said a team from Prampram Police and Sege Police were dispatched to the scene but did not meet them.

On the spot investigations led the Regional team to Old Ningo where they intercepted the suspects discharging the goods into a Toyota Corolla with registration number GR 7562-?13 from the unregistered mini bus."

According to the release, "On seeing the Police, suspects opened fire which prompted police to return fire, resulting in the fatal injury of Felix Teye Akwetey. His three other accomplices were overpowered in the process but two others, managed to escape.

The body of Felix has been deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy."

According to the Police, two locally manufactured guns, two motorbikes, the Hyundai H100 mini bus and the Toyota Corolla, which were allegedly used in the robbery have been retrieved and impounded by the Police to assist in investigations.

"Also found on suspects were a flat screen TV set, 25 pieces of assorted cloths, 20 cartons of Tomato Paste, one home theatre and clothes belonging to a complainant who had reported earlier in the day that he had been burgled."

The release said a search in the deceased's room at Old Ningo, revealed two air conditioners, one damaged gas burner, one LG Table Top Fridge, one Superior Heater among other items which have been retrieved by the Police.

The release said, "The three other suspects are in police custody assisting in investigations after which they will be put before court.
