Suspend Sir John and co for Akufo-Addo support - Wereko-Brobby

The suspended founder member of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby says he will push for the suspension of party leaders who have shown their open bias over who leads the NPP into the 2016 elections.

The former CEO of the Ghana@50 Secretariat told XYZ Breakfast show host Moro Awudu on Wednesday that the NPP’s constitution bars its executives from showing such bias.

His comments come on the heels of a raging debate in the party over whether twice-defeated flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo should have a third try.

The argument started after General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie told XYZ News that the former Attorney General will definitely lead the party to the 2016 elections.

Dr. Wereko-Brobby said all those vouching and lobbying for Nana Akufo-Addo are breaching the constitution and must be brought to order.

“You can root for [Nana Addo] but it is illegal and I intend to take action against that.

“It is illegal under the party’s constitution for bodies under the constitution or individuals holding office under the NPP to overtly or covertly support the political candidacy or ambition of any individual within the party,” he added.

“…Being a support for the pound of pound school for thought I intend to ask for them to be suspended,” Dr. Wereko Brobby stressed.

“If we don’t nip this in the bud we would be creating the basis for dictatorship and adulation," he added.
