Members of the Coalition of Concerned National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth have asked that all the 10 regional chairmen of the party should step aside so the party can restructure properly as their interference “flouts the modus operandi of the ongoing reorganization process”.
All 10 Regional Chairmen of the NDC, on Thursday, issued a collectively signed statement encouraging Former President John Dramani Mahama, to contest in the 2020 elections.
They said the party would be better off if they stepped aside as their recent actions made their intentions questionable stating that they had lost confidence in chairmen.
“The regional chairmen cannot be referees and players at the same time. They must do the honourable thing by stepping aside. We have lost confidence in them. We believe they will never be fair to other would be Flagbearer contenders. We are no longer confident in the leadership of the ten regional chairmen. The earlier they resign or are suspended the better for the well-being of the party,” they demanded.
Prior to this development, several other party bigwigs NDC big shots had endorsed the former President leaving other presidential hopefuls like Prof. Joshua Alabi, Ekow Spio-Garbrah Alban Bagbin to struggle for support.
The Coalition of Concerned NDC Youth in a release expressed disapproval at the actions of the 10 Regional Charmian and said it was essential for party executives to address the situation with promptness.
“We the Coalition of Concerned Youth of the NDC would like to use this medium to express our total disapproval and disgust at the manner in which ten outgoing regional chairmen of our party conducted themselves yesterday at a press conference they held to endorse former President Mahama as our Flagbearer for election 2020.We would like to appeal to the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Council of Elders of the NDC, to call the ten outgoing regional chairmen to book,” they wrote.
They said the 10 regional chairmen defied party regulations by endorsing John Mahama while the reorganization process within the party was ongoing adding that their actions was evidence of their desire to “hurry to stampede the reorganization process”.
“The seriousness of their conduct clearly flouts the modus operandi of the ongoing reorganization process. As we speak, booklets are not even available to register branch members, yet what these regional chairmen are interested in is for former President Mahama to lead the NDC again. Why the hurry to stampede the reorganization process,” they quizzed.
They recommended that the 10 regional chairmen of the party be suspended as their endorsing John Mahama was “unethical and irresponsible” adding that party rules were most important than individual interests and individuals who break rules should be dealt with accordingly.
“We are hereby appealing to the NEC and Council of Elders to ask the ten infamous and lawless regional chairmen to step aside and allow peace to prevail. Their unethical and irresponsible conduct has jeopardized the reorganization process. Their demeanour amounts to anti-party conduct which merits suspension from the party for a period of time.”
“The party is bigger than all of us. Let's apply the rules regardless of status or name. The party must be healed first before all other things,” they said.
