Suspend transfer of Tema ICU secretary

Tema, Sept. 11, GNA- Members of the Tema branch of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) have at an emergency general meeting made an appeal to the Minister of Manpower Development and Employment to reverse the transfer of the secretary.

Making the appeal at the Tema Industrial Recreational Area (TIRA), members resolved that they would advise themselves if their request was not adhered to.

They noted with grave concern "the haphazard manner" in which Mr Isaac Asaah, the ICU branch secretary in Tema was being transferred from the Tema Main Branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank to Karachi Nkwanta.

"Much as trade unions are not averse to genuine transfers, we see this particular transfer as a covert act designed not only to frustrate but to victimise and intimidate Mr Asaah, from pursuing a court injunction he slapped on the Trades Union Congress (TUC) for violating its own constitution."

Members, therefore, resolved to resist any attempt to trample upon the fundamental human rights of Mr Asaah, for what they termed "administrative expediency."
