Suspending Afoko will harm NPP - Aide

Paul Afoko - NPP Chairman Paul Afoko - NPP Chairman

An aide to the New Patriotic Party Chairman, Paul Afoko, has fiercely opposed moves by the party’s Council of Elders to suspend him.

The council has directed the disciplinary committee to suspend Mr. Afoko for allegedly violating the party’s constitutional provisions.

A statement signed by the chairman of the Council of Elders CK Tedam and copied to the flagbearer of the party and former President John Kufuor said the conduct of Mr. Afoko is bringing the image of the party into disrepute.

“A thorough investigations into the constitutional breaches of chairman Afoko.

“Appropriate recommendation to promote discipline, peace, order, harmony and progress in the party towards election 2016.

“At least suspension of chairman Afoko from his office until after the 2016 elections.

“Sir, we believe the party has reached the cross-roads and definitive action needs to be taken immediately to bring all such misconducts and infractions to an end. We will expect speedy treatment of this complaints and in any case, not later than the constitutionally stipulated deadline of 21-days in article 4.5(c)," portions of the letter read.

But spokesperson for Mr. Afoko, Nana Yaw Osei in an interview with Starr News said the attempt to suspend his boss would harm the party.

According to him, Afoko is unfazed by such attempts and is focused on ensuring that he helps the NPP secure victory in the 2016 elections.

“This push and pull that is happening in the party is not helping anybody…he (Afoko) is amazed at the falsehood being put out there but he has taken it in his stride hoping that one day the truth will come out”.
