A ”susu” collector, Stanley Duah, who embezzled GH? 30,000.00 belonging to his employers has been fined by an Accra Circuit Court.
Duah charged with stealing pleaded guilty before the court presided over by Ms Eva Bannerman Williams.
The court convicted him to pay a fine of GH?2, 400.00 or in default, a four year jail term.
In passing sentence, the court said it took into consideration the fact that Duah was a first offender and he had shown remorse in court.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Michael Jubiok said the complainant, Tracy Arthur, is the owner of Best Hope Susu Service at Teshie, in Accra and that Duah has worked with the complainant for the past one and half years.
According to Chief Inspector Jubiok, Duah was assigned to go round and collect monies from individuals and pay same into the companies account.
However, prosecution said after working for the past six months, the complainant detected that the company was running into debt and later discovered that GH? 30,000.00 was missing from Duah record Book.
On September 18, this year, the complainant reported the matter to the Police and Duah was arrested.
The prosecution said it was revealed that Duah had sent GH?8,000.00 through mobile money transfer to Kumasi for a vehicle to be bought for him.
Also, Duah failed to record monies collected in his record book and had inflated amounts that he sometimes collects and withdrew same from the bank.
