Gomoa Ekwamkrom (C/R), Aug 11, GNA - Mr Richmond Sam Quarm, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa East, on Sunday cut the sod for a 36 billion cedis school complex by the Swedru Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School.
He suggested to the government to make education free in the District because of the poverty level there, which had prevented many brilliant children from attaining higher education. Mr Quarm noted that the previous administration did not open any second cycle institution in the area from Gomoa Nyanyano to Gomoa Ekwamkrom and said the only one at Gomoa Potsin, was built by the Ahmmadiya Muslim Mission.
He commended the Agona Swedru SDA Church for the decision to establish the school.
Mr Quarm appealed to the Chiefs and people of the area to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to have better and reliable health-care delivery and to enable the government to abolish the cash and carry system.
The Reverend Samuel Adu-Koranteng, President of Southern Ghana Conference of the S.D.A. Church, said the project would be financed through fund raising activities, offertory and other donations. He stressed that the Church was not propagating the gospel alone but was committed to promoting human resource development and the well being of the people.
Rev Adu-Koranteng said the school, which was started in November has about 170 students made up of 100 girls and 70 boys. He urged parents in the area to send their children to the school.
