TB cases on the increase in Sunyani

Sunyani, March 30, GNA - The Sunyani Municipal Hospital recorded 70 cases of tuberculosis (TB) in 2005 as against 69 cases the previous year. Dr Samuel Dogbey, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, told the He said tuberculosis was well noted in some communities and that the stigmatisation of victims had led to the low detection rate of cases.

Dr Dogbey said old people were more prone to the disease and spoke against the habit of smoking among old people since the disease could lead to infertility, paralysis and waist pains. He mentioned filth, lack of seeking early health care and intake of hard drugs as some major causes of the disease. The Medical Superintendent said the treatment of tuberculosis attracted no fee and advised patients to continuously report to the hospital for treatment.
