TEWU gives ultimatum to government

Accra, June 24, GNA - The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Friday asked the Government to grant the mandate to its members to conclude negotiations on the review of their conditions of service.

This was contained in statement in Accra signed by the representatives of the various Unions made up of TEWU, the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG), Local Unions in public Universities and Polytechnics and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The statement said, "the 15 per cent salary increase across board being imposed on us by our employers is woefully low and irrevocably unacceptable, and Government is urged to substantially raise the percentage".

It expressed regret that the Government was dragging its feet in addressing issues on the conditions of service and said members would advise themselves by June 30 2005 if no action had been taken.
