The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has distributed tools, medical and educational support worth GHC119,785 to sixty-two beneficiaries in the Tema metropolis as parts of government’s effort to support Persons with Disabilities.

The items which include computers and accessories, industrial sewing machines, deep freezers, plastic bowls among other items were distributed to the beneficiaries.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, Felix Nii Anang-La who made the presentation to the beneficiaries admonished them to seize the opportunity to improve their livelihood.

“You have a huge potential in you that when developed can enable you to contribute your quota to national development just like anyone, so do not allow disability to limit you or push you to beg for arms”

Explaining the allocation of the funds, Felix Nii Anang-La stated that GHC7,778 of the amount would be used to cater for the medical bills of the beneficiaries, while GHC4,178 would go into tuition and other related expenses, and GHC107,500 for business support. Mr. Anang-La urged beneficiaries to properly handle and manage the items which they received.

According to the Ghanaian Times newspaper, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, Felix Nii Anang-La, revealed that the container grocery shops (provision stores) which some 10 beneficiaries requested were still under construction and assured that the container grocery shops will be stocked with provisions and delivered to the beneficiaries.

The gesture forms part of President Akufo-Addo’s vision to empower Persons with Disabilities. In May 2019, the president presented GHC2 million to 1,000 women entrepreneurs living with disability, under the Presidential Empowerment for Women Entrepreneurs with Disability.
