TMA to construct six modern basic schools before December

Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, has disclosed that the Assembly will construct at least six modern basic schools at selected areas within the metropolis before the end of the year.

The TMA boss made the disclosure when he addressed a sod-cutting programme for the construction of a Community Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound at the Adjei Kojo Basic School, which is going to provide clinical services to the school children and the community as well. The CHPS Compound, which is going to be constructed within the school’s premises, will provide accommodation for the nurses who will be employed, as well as a pharmaceutical shop.

“We, in Tema, have come up with the Industrial City Basic School Programme. Under the Industrial City Basic School Programme, we expect to have modern school infrastructures, which will have all ancillary facilities, including a computer laboratory, a library and a CHPS compound, to provide clinical services for both the school children and the community,” he revealed.

The MCE continued that plans were far advanced to cut the sod for the first 12-unit classroom block, which is a two-storey, at a school called ‘Oniku’ in the Tema East Constituency. He added that they will quickly follow that with another sod-cutting in the Tema West Constituency at the Community Two Mexico School Complex.

Furthermore, Isaac Ashai Odamtten said that sooner or later they would be coming back to put up a two-storey school structure, develop the football field, and add another sports related activity, either volley/basketball, and ensure that the school becomes a community on its own to offer quality education for the people within the Adjei Kojo area. Isaac Odamtten challenged residents in the Tema Metropolis to work hard to ensure that they played their roles in building a better Tema effectively.

“When we talk of a better Tema, we are talking of infrastructure, the safety and security of our people, streetlights within our community, but above all, we are also talking about a clean environment. We want to contribute our quota through the Clean Tema Campaign, and ensure that the sanitation challenges that have befallen us are brought to the barest minimum, if not completely eradicated this time,” he revealed.

He encouraged residents who had not acquired litter bins to take steps to get some, saying the Assembly had worked out a programme to provide a minimum of 50,000 litter bins, which would be distributed to households in Tema to support the Clean Tema Campaign.

Isaac Odamtten implored the waste management companies to up their game by increasing the rate at which they lift bins from households for the benefit of all. However, he urged households, residents and businesses in the Adjei Kojo area to pay their rates and bills to support the efforts of the Assembly in all these very important physical social facilities for the good people of Adjei Kojo.
