Joe Mettle made history last Saturday as the first Gospel artiste to win the Overall Artiste of the Year since the inception of the annual Ghana Music Awards.
He beat competition from E.L who won last year, Sarkodie who has won the category twice, 2015 winner Stonebwoy, as well as MzVee and Medikal who were aiming to clinch the title for the first time.
According to the collated results released by Charterhouse, organisers of the scheme, Joe Mettle won by 51.22% votes.
Sarkodie who was the closest had 26.56% followed by Stonebwoy who had 13.33%. EL, Medikal and MzVee had 4.97%, 3.70% and 0.22% respectively.
After winning the topmost award, Joe Mettle has declared the flood gates are now opened for gospel artistes to win the Artiste of the Year title at the Ghana Music Awards.
